I'm part of a group that meets at Fiber on a Whim to work through the Jan
Beaney & Jean Littlejohn workbooks. In January, as part of the Gardens &
More workbook, we had fun glueing tissue paper into our design notebook.
I used a published picture for my initial inspiration and leaned toward the
abstract.
Then, in February, Sharon
Ahmed returned from a workshop with Beaney & Littlejohn and brought us
all of the class leftovers. This included wonderful pieces of dyed wool roving
and scrim.
When I returned home, I pulled out all of my fun things: ribbons, my own
dyed scrim, yellow satin, and special threads. I used black Kunin felt for
the background and a wonderful sticky soluble stabilizer by Madeira that
allowed me to lay everything down. Then I covered it with Solvy and added
the hand and machine stitches.
June 2008: I added beads, sequins, and charms to give it a little glitz.
