This is my second piece inspired by a photograph by Dorothea Lange. The picture was taken July 1, 1939 in Orange County, North Carolina at the Atwater home and farm. It is a woman I believe to be a sharecropper.
I saw a lot of soul in this subject. I realized as I worked on the piece that the cabin is really an extension of the woman — an outward manifestation of the tattered state of her soul.
Inspired by a photo by Dorothea Lange.
