Bukonyan Elder

January 2011
24 x 31 3/4
$2000

This is an elderly yet beautiful woman from Bukonya, Rwanda with character lines that define the landscape of her face.

What struck me most about this woman were her hands resting gently under her chin. This was my first opportunity to study hands in depth and I changed them quite a bit from the original photograph in order to show their wonderful detail.

Bukonyan Elder is my second piece inspired by the work of Land of a Thousand Hills Coffee and their work in Rwanda to help build sustainable industry for the Rwandan people.

Inspired by a photograph by Kim Jackson.
